On any given evening, Ewing receives emails informing him that some fan in a far-flung location – say, Los Angeles – has just invested in his tiny Scottish soccer club, the Caledonian Braves. “A community club, most people would think, is a local community bound by a certain geography,” says Ewing. National Basketball Association/Courtesy Caledonian BravesAgainst this backdrop, fan ownership has emerged as somewhat of a utopian panacea for some fans. As time went by, the academy’s first team started playing in the Scottish soccer leagues and separated to form the Caledonian Braves in 2019. “You can be anyone really from anywhere and you can also own a football club for as little as £10 ($13).”

Taylor Swift's 15 best breakup songs, ranked

Larry Busacca/Getty ImagesWhen "Speak Now" was released, Swift wasn't shy about framing the album as a diary set to music. "Every single song is like a roadmap to what that relationship stood for, with little markers that maybe everyone won't know, but there are things that were little nuances of the relationship, little hints. And every single song is like that." "Dear John" is the most obvious example, likely owing its title to Swift's ex John Mayer (though it also doubles as a reference to a wartime breakup letter, historically sent from a woman to a soldier). Indeed, the tabloid fodder attached to "Dear John" may have threatened to eclipse the song's power, had 20-year-old Swift been a less capable songwriter.

As anchor department stores left malls, so did some name-brand chains like Ruby Tuesday, Chili’s, Applebee’s and others. What’s taking their place illustrates a large shift in US tastes: There’s a boom in smaller and regional restaurant chains with a local following. At the same time, many national chains are prioritizing drive-thru locations over their sit-down restaurants in malls. Chick-fil-A restaurants were only located in mall food courts for the company’s first 20 years. “Traditional mall restaurants were casual dining chains like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, and quick-service restaurants in food courts.

Opinion | Maximizing Profits at the Patients’ Expense

To the Editor:Re “Patients Hit With Big Bills While Insurers Reap Fees” (front page, April 7):Chris Hamby’s investigation uncovers the hard truth for patients who receive care from providers outside their insurance network. While most of us try to save out-of-pocket costs by using in-network health professionals and hospitals, it’s not always possible. Health price transparency is improving, but it’s outrageous that even two years after the No Surprises Act passed, everyone except the patient knows the price of a procedure or doctor’s visit in advance, leaving patients unpleasantly surprised. The writer is senior director of Health Care Campaigns for U.S. PIRG. To the Editor:This is just the latest example of the schemes deployed by insurers to maximize profits by cutting reimbursements to physicians and shifting medically necessary health care costs onto patients.

That is a reality.”Sanders’ comments come as college campuses across the United States have erupted with pro-Palestinian protests. As the war continues, reports of antisemitic acts have surged across campuses, and Islamophobia has run rampant, too. The recent rise in protests has inflamed those tensions, forcing university leaders to decide when free speech on campus crosses a line and becomes threatening. Antisemitism is a disgusting and vile form of bigotry which has killed millions of people,” Sanders, Independent from Vermont, said Sunday. College officials’ responses to Israel-Hamas war protests have unfolded alongside a global debate over the US role in the conflict, as well as an intensifying race for the White House and for control of Congress.

Mr. Biden will almost assuredly make jokes at Mr. Trump’s expense and poke fun at the Washington press corps. But Mr. Biden could also take a victory lap for a spate of good news in recent days. New York CNN —Federal safety regulators said they are investigating whether Tesla’s massive recall in December of essentially all of its vehicles on US roads was sufficient to fix the safety threat posed by its “Autopilot” feature. The recall of 2 million Tesla vehicles was ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over a software update that is designed to limit the use of its Autopilot feature. The NHTSA said late Thursday that Tesla’s software update recall requires the owner to opt in and allows a driver to readily reverse it. The software update ordered in December was designed to give Tesla drivers more warnings when they are not paying attention to the road while using the Autopilot’s “Autosteer” function. After the recall, Tesla vehicles with Autosteer turned on were supposed to check on the driver’s attention level more routinely.
